FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Vancouver, Oct 7, 2020) Some of Canada’s best known athletes and other celebrities have rallied to create a virtual Gala to raise profile and funds to implement their vision, to “Make Canada the Fittest Nation on Earth by 2030”. Participants may tune in on line for free at 5pm PT, on Thursday, October 15th at the Canadian Health and Fitness Institute website: www.CHFI.FIT.
People may now visit the site to bid on a selection of one-of-a-kind items. “We looked at canceling this event due to the pandemic but instead took it virtual to reach not just people in one town or other but instead to reach Canadian who cares about physical, mental, and spiritual health,” said Mike Mahony, coordinator of the Canadian Health and Fitness Institute Virtual Celebrity Gala.
Celebrity Panelists include Man-in-Motion Rick Hansen, Vancouver Canucks Ambassador and
former Goalie Kirk McLean, Olympic Medalists Ashleigh McIvor and Lynn Kanuka, “Crazy
Canuck” Downhill Ski Champion Ken Read, former Vancouver Whitecaps Captain Jay DeMerit, and Running Room Founder and President John Stanton.
In his sneak peek of the Gala, Radio Sportcaster Scott Rintoul, host of the Scott Rintoul Show on Sportsnet, says, “We’re going to have a lot of fun as we talk with legendary sports figures who have come together to support the Canadian Health and Fitness Institute.” .
“One of our goals is to lift the spirits of Canadians young and old, to provide a long-term vision beyond COVID that encourages active citizens practising active citizenship,” said John Weston CHFI Founder and former Member of Parliament. At the Gale, we’ll be honouring someone who has personified those values by presenting the inaugural CHFI Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Jack Taunton, one of the founders of Sport Medicine in Canada, creator of the Vancouver Sun Run and Vancouver Marathon, and top physician for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Special greetings will be provided by Her Excellency Governor General Julie Payette.
The Gala is a fundraiser to implement the Institute’s five-phase business plan. CHFI offers
sponsorship packages and welcomes auction donations. This and other information is available at www.CHFI.FIT.
